Why your garden needs seaweed

Do you use seaweed based fertilisers on your garden? If not, then it's worth giving it a try for the multiple health benefits in your garden.

  • Seaweed is high in phosphorous, which is what plants need to develop strong root systems. A strong root system improves overall plant health.

  • As seaweed breaks down in the soil it produces iron, which is useful for a range of plants that may need additional iron. If you notice plants have yellow leaves but dark green veins then it might benefit from a dose of seaweed.

  • Seaweed products are used on rose foliage to improve their resistance to disease that cause black spot.

  • The components in seaweed bind to soil particles and help it retain moisture. In times of drought, plants fed with seaweed can withstand longer periods of dry conditions and come back stronger when watered. • Lawns can benefit greatly from regular doses of seaweed. As well as increasing nitrogen availability around the root zone, it also contains iodine which can help prevent turf disease, so add a regular dose of a seaweed fertiliser to your lawn feeding routine.

  • Seaweed is an organic product that can improve your soil as opposed to man-made chemicals that deplete your soil over time.

These are just some of the benefits you will get from using seaweed in your garden. It is important to note that seaweed shouldn't replace your regular fertiliser, but can be an another valuable addition to your garden health kit!
